A Prayer for a Family Going Through Divorce
Father, the house is quieter and louder all at once, full of half packed boxes and things no one is saying. A family is coming apart, and the children keep watching our faces to know if they are safe.
I confess the grief I am trying to hide and the anger I am trying not to feed. There is so much blame to pass around, and underneath it all is a sadness I do not have words for.
So I bring this breaking thing to You, who is near to the brokenhearted and gentle with the wounded. You do not turn away from messes like ours. You move toward them.
Shield the children most of all. Keep them out of the crossfire, free from the burden of choosing sides. Help us speak peace even when we cannot feel it, for their sake if not for ours.
Your word says You are close to the crushed in spirit, and my spirit is crushed tonight. Be that close. Carry what none of us can carry alone right now.
I cannot promise this will not hurt. But I lay our family, divided as it is, into Your steady hands. Hold every one of us through the breaking, and lead us toward whatever healing comes next. Amen.
Amen.
Even a family that breaks can still be tenderly held.
