A Prayer for Forgiveness After Hurting Someone

2 min readPray slowly
“First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift”Matthew 5:24

Father, I am the one who caused the harm this time. I see the hurt on their face, hear the change in their voice, and I cannot take back the words or actions that put it there.

I confess I have made excuses, blaming my stress or their reaction, anything to avoid sitting in the plain truth that I wounded someone I care about. The guilt is heavy, and I deserve to feel it.

But guilt that only spirals inward helps no one. So I bring it to You and ask not just to feel sorry, but to be changed and to make things right where I can.

Your Word tells me to go and be reconciled, to not let the offense sit and fester. Give me the humility to apologize without defending myself, to own it fully and let them be angry if they need to be.

Forgive me, and then help me repair what my carelessness broke.

I lay down my pride and ask You to do in their heart what I cannot, and in mine what I keep avoiding. Make me a person who mends. Amen.

Amen.

Owning the harm you caused is not weakness. It is the first step toward repairing it.
