A Prayer to Forgive a Friend Who Betrayed Me
Father, I trusted them. I told them the things I tell almost no one, and they used it, or talked about it, or simply walked away when I needed them most. The sting of it still catches me off guard.
I confess I have replayed the betrayal, searching for the moment I should have seen it coming, blaming myself for being open and them for being cruel.
It is a particular kind of pain, being hurt by someone who knew me. I bring it to You honestly, the anger, the embarrassment, the grief of losing a friendship I thought was solid.
Your Word knows this ache, that it is a familiar friend, not an enemy, who wounds us deepest. You understand betrayal more than anyone. So You are the right place to bring it.
Help me forgive without rushing back into trust I have not been given reason to rebuild. Heal the part of me afraid to let anyone close again.
I release them to You and ask You to mend what they tore. Be the friend who stays closer than any other. Amen.
Amen.
Forgiving betrayal is not the same as restoring trust. One is a gift; the other is earned.
