A Prayer for the Loss of a Pet
Father, my companion is gone, and the house has lost its familiar sounds. No paws at the door, no warmth at my feet, no eyes lighting up when I walk into the room. The quiet is louder than I expected.
Some might say it was only an animal, but they were family. They loved me without conditions, met me at the door on my worst days, and asked for nothing but to be near me. That kind of love leaves a real and aching gap.
I bring this tender grief to You without apology, because You made every creature and You called them good. You see the small, faithful joy this little life poured into mine.
Comfort me in the empty spaces they used to fill. Thank You for the years of loyalty and simple gladness, for a love that asked so little and gave so much.
You hold every sparrow that falls, and not one of them is forgotten by You. If You watch over the smallest bird, then surely my faithful friend is safe in Your good and gentle keeping.
I thank You for the gift of them, and I trust their little life to Your care. Mind the quiet they left behind. Amen.
Amen.
A love that asked so little and gave so much is never overlooked by God.
