A Prayer for Healing a Damaged Relationship

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”Matthew 5:9

Father, there is a person I once loved easily, and now every conversation between us is a minefield. Words were said that cannot be unsaid, and a coldness has settled where warmth used to be. I miss them and I am still angry at them, often in the same breath.

I confess I have rehearsed my defense more than I have searched my own part. I have nursed the wound to keep it tender, told the story in the version that makes me right, and let pride do the talking when I should have listened.

So I bring this broken bond to You, the One who reconciles what looks beyond repair. Soften the place in me that has gone hard. Help me see them as a person who hurts too, not only as the one who hurt me.

Heal what is fractured between us. Give me the humility to say I am sorry where I should, and the grace to forgive where I have been wronged. Make a way back where I see only a wall.

You taught us that if we forgive others, we ourselves will be forgiven, and that peacemakers are called Your children. Make me a peacemaker here. Mend this, Father, and let mercy move first. Amen.

Amen.

Reconciliation often begins with the harder choice to soften first.
