A Prayer for Healing for a Parent
Father, my mother lies in a bed that is not her own, and the parent who once carried me now needs to be carried. I have watched her grow thin and tired, and I do not know how to hold all of this.
I confess I am frightened of losing her, and angry at how the body wears down. I have prayed and prayed and still the scans come back hard. Some nights I am too weary even to find the words.
So I bring her to You, the One who knit her together before I was ever born. You see the cells the doctors cannot reach and the fear she hides behind her brave face.
Lay Your hand on her body. Ease the pain in her bones, steady her breath, and let healing rise in her like a quiet tide. Give her doctors wisdom and give me the strength to sit with her without falling apart.
You promised that those who wait on You will find their strength renewed, rising up as on wings, running without growing weary. Renew hers now, and mine.
Whatever the morning holds, I place her in Your keeping, where no one is ever lost. Hold my parent close, and let her rest in the truth that she is loved. Amen.
Amen.
Lift up an aging or ailing parent, trusting the One who formed them.
