A Prayer for a Loved One Battling Addiction
Lord, I am watching someone I love disappear inside something I cannot fix, and the helplessness is unbearable. I have begged, I have raged, I have lain awake listening for the door, and none of it has reached them.
I confess I have tried to be their savior and worn myself thin doing it. I have confused loving them with controlling the outcome, and I am exhausted.
So I bring them to You, by name, because You can go where I cannot, into the places of their heart I will never reach.
Guard their life tonight. Wherever they are, let them be safe. Send a moment of clarity into the fog, a person, a word, a memory that cracks the door open toward help. And give me wisdom to know when to hold on and when to let go of the parts that were never mine to carry.
You are near to the brokenhearted and You save the crushed in spirit. We are both of those things right now. Be near.
I place this person I love into Your hands, which are stronger and gentler than mine. I cannot rescue them. I trust that You have not let go. Amen.
Amen.
You can love someone fully and still not be the one who saves them. That work is God's.
