A Prayer for Worry That Keeps Me Awake

“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”Matthew 6:27

Lord, the worry will not let me sleep. It has me by the chest, going over the same problem from every angle, as if the right amount of fretting will finally crack it open. My body wants rest and my mind will not grant it.

I confess I have made worry into a kind of false control. As long as I am turning this over, it feels like I am doing something. But I am only exhausting myself and changing nothing.

So I stop, here in the dark, and turn to You. You see the very thing keeping me awake, and it does not look as huge from where You sit.

Take this specific worry, the one I have circled a hundred times tonight. I cannot solve it at this hour. Hold it for me until I have daylight and a clear head.

You asked which of us can add a single hour to our life by worrying, and the honest answer is none of us. So I let go of the hours I have been trying to control by losing them.

I trade my worry for Your watching. The problem is still there, but so are You, and You are bigger. Now let me sleep. Amen.

Amen.

Worry has never solved one problem. Hand it over and rest.
