A Prayer Before a Job Interview

“Do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”Luke 12:11-12

Father, I am sitting in my car in this parking lot, my palms damp on the steering wheel, rehearsing answers I keep forgetting, watching the clock count down to the moment they call my name. My heart is pounding louder than my thoughts.

I confess I have wrapped too much of my worth around this one half hour, as if a stranger across a desk could decide whether I matter. The fear of saying the wrong thing has tied my stomach in knots.

So before I walk through those doors, I hand this to You. Steady my voice. Clear the fog from my mind. Help me to speak honestly about who I am and what I can do, without shrinking and without pretending.

You promised that when I do not know what to say, You would give me the words, and that the One who goes before me will not leave me. Walk in ahead of me now and prepare the room.

Whatever the answer turns out to be, I trust that You see the whole road I cannot see. Let me leave that office knowing I was carried, not alone. Amen.

Amen.

You do not have to earn your worth in there. You already have it.
