A Prayer for Anxiety About a Relationship

2 min readPray slowly
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.”1 John 4:18

Father, my heart is heavy with worry over this relationship. I keep reading into every silence, every short reply, every shift in their tone, building stories about what it means and what might be slipping away. The fear of losing them, or of not being enough for them, sits in my chest all day.

I confess I have looked to this person to give me a security only You can give. I have let my peace rise and fall with their moods, and clung tighter the more afraid I became.

So I bring this anxious love to You. You see what is really happening, not the worst version my fear has invented. You hold this bond and both of us inside Your care.

Help me love without grasping and trust without controlling. Give me the courage for honest conversation instead of silent spiraling, and the grace to let this person be human and imperfect, as I am.

You said that perfect love casts out fear, that real love does not torment but frees. Let Your love steady me so I can love them from a settled place and not a frightened one.

I place this relationship in Your hands, holding it open rather than clenched. Whatever it becomes, my worth does not depend on it. Quiet my anxious heart, and teach me to love free of fear. Amen.

Amen.

Love held with open hands breathes. Love held in a fist cannot survive.
