A Prayer for Anxiety About the Future

2 min readPray slowly
“For I know the plans I have for you, plans for good and not for harm, to give you a future and a hope.”Jeremiah 29:11

Father, my mind keeps sprinting ahead into a future I cannot see. I lie here running through every fork in the road, every way it could go wrong, trying to solve a hundred problems that may never arrive. My stomach is in knots over things that have not even happened.

I confess that I want a map of the whole journey before I take a single step. I have been treating uncertainty as a threat instead of trusting the One who already stands in my tomorrow.

So I bring this unknown to You, the God who holds every year I have not lived yet. You are not waiting to see how my story turns out. You are already there, kind and unhurried, on the far side of all my worry.

Loosen my grip on the need to know. Give me enough light for the next step and the courage to take it. Teach me to live in this day instead of camping in a tomorrow I cannot control.

You promised that the plans You have for me are for good and not for harm, to give me a future and a hope. Let that promise carry me where my eyes cannot reach.

I place all my unknowns into Your hands, one season at a time. Lead me forward. Be my certainty when nothing else is certain, and let me walk into the dark trusting the One who made it. Amen.

Amen.

You do not need the whole map. You only need the next faithful step.
