A Prayer of Gratitude for Small Mercies

2 min readPray slowly
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care”Matthew 10:29

Father, it was nothing dramatic today, just a string of small kindnesses I almost missed. A green light when I was late. A stranger who held the door. A song that came on right when I needed it.

I confess I am usually waiting for the big rescue and blind to the little ones. I want the parted sea and walk right past the manna that shows up quietly every single morning.

So let me notice the small stuff for once. The warm shower on a cold morning. The text that made me laugh out loud in a quiet room. The headache that finally, mercifully eased. None of these are too minor for thanks. They are exactly how You love me, patiently, in the fine detail of an ordinary day.

Your word says You care even for the sparrows, that not one of them falls to the ground without Your notice. If You keep such close watch over a single small bird, then You surely see every little mercy You have stitched quietly through my day.

Train my eyes to catch them as they pass. Let gratitude become a kind of attention in me, a slower way of seeing what was there the whole time, waiting to be noticed and named.

Thank You for loving me in the little things I keep overlooking. They add up to a life held by Your hand. Amen.

Amen.

If He sees the sparrow, He sees the small mercy you walked right past.
