Gratitude

A Prayer of Gratitude to God

2 min readPray slowly
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change”James 1:17

Father, I am stopping in the middle of an ordinary day, and something in me just wants to say thank You. The light through the window, the breath in my chest, the fact that I woke up at all, none of it is owed to me, and yet here it is.

I confess I move through most days half awake to all of this. I notice what is missing far more quickly than what is here. I treat the steady mercies as background noise and only look up when something breaks.

So I am looking up now. I am letting my eyes adjust to how much good has been quietly holding me. Thank You for being near when I forgot to look for You. Thank You for staying when I gave You no reason to.

Your word says every good and perfect gift comes down from You, the Father of lights, who does not flicker or change. Let that steady me. Whatever else shifts, You do not.

Take this small thank You and make it a habit in me, a turning of my head toward You many times a day. Tune my ears to the music that was always playing.

I want gratitude to be the first language I reach for, not the last. Teach me to say thank You before I know how the story ends. Amen.

Amen.

Gratitude is just learning to look up before something breaks.
