A Prayer for Strength While Waiting on Test Results

2 min readPray slowly
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”Philippians 4:6

Father, the test is done and now I am waiting, and the waiting is its own kind of agony. I check my phone too often, I rehearse both the good news and the bad, and my imagination keeps sprinting to the worst room in the house.

I confess my faith feels thin in this gap. I tell myself to be calm and my body refuses, the dread sitting in my stomach like a stone. I want to know, even if knowing is hard, because the not-knowing is hollowing me out.

So I bring You these unbearable in-between days. You already hold the result I am afraid of; nothing the call reveals will be news to You. You have numbered my days and held them all along.

Guard my mind from spiraling. Let me sleep tonight instead of bargaining with the dark. Give me strength enough for this one day, since tomorrow's strength will come tomorrow.

You told me not to be anxious but to bring every fear to You, and that a peace beyond my understanding would guard my heart and mind. Let that peace stand watch while I wait.

Whatever the result, I will not face it alone. Steady me, Father, until I know, and steady me after. Amen.

Amen.

You only need enough strength for today; tomorrow comes with its own.
