A Prayer for Hope to Hold On

2 min readPray slowly
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful”Hebrews 10:23

Father, I am at the end of my rope and my fingers are slipping. I have been holding on so long that holding on is all I know how to do, and even that is getting hard. I do not need a miracle today. I just need to not let go.

I confess I have wondered if it would be easier to stop trying, to lay the whole struggle down and quit. The temptation to give in has its own kind of pull.

But before I do anything, I am turning to You, because You are the One who holds on to me when my grip fails. You will not let me be swept away.

Your word says I should hold tightly to the hope I profess, because the One who promised is faithful. So I am holding, not to my strength, but to Your faithfulness.

I release the demand to feel strong. I just keep my hand in Yours one more hour, one more day. Tighten Your grip where mine gives out.

I do not have to be strong enough; I only have to stay. Hold on to me, Lord, and help me make it through this day. Amen.

Amen.

You do not have to hold on by your own strength; you only have to not let go.
