A Prayer for a Good Friend
Lord, I have plenty of acquaintances and not one real friend. No one I can call at midnight, no one who knows the unflattering parts of my story and stays anyway. I am surrounded by polite small talk and starving for the kind of friendship that goes deep.
I confess I have wondered if the lack is my fault, if I am somehow hard to befriend, and that fear has made me hold back and keep everyone at a careful distance.
So I bring You this honest request. You said a real friend loves at all times and stands closer than family in trouble. You know exactly the kind of bond my heart is reaching for.
Send me one good friend, the kind who sharpens me like iron sharpens iron, who tells me the truth in love and shows up when it is inconvenient. And make me that friend to someone else first.
I release my fear of being unchosen and my pride that says I should not need anyone. You modeled friendship by laying down everything for the people You loved. Lead me to my people, and until they come, be the Friend who is always near. Amen.
Amen.
Ask boldly for the friend you need, and become one first.
