Loneliness

A Prayer for Companionship

“It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”Genesis 2:18

Father, I am tired of doing every small thing by myself. I cook for one, I walk in the evening with no one beside me, I save up little stories all day and then realize there is no one to tell them to. The longing for a companion has worn a groove in my heart.

I confess I have grown afraid that the wanting itself is a weakness, so I bury it and act self-sufficient, when underneath I simply ache for someone to share an ordinary Tuesday with.

So I bring this honest hunger to You. You looked at the first person You made and said it is not good for them to be alone, so You know this longing from the inside. You planted it in me on purpose.

Lead a true companion across my path in Your timing, and steady me while I wait. Make me into someone worth walking beside, and keep my heart soft instead of letting the waiting turn it bitter.

I lay down the loneliness and the impatience both. You are the companion who never leaves the room, and from that fullness I can wait without fear. Walk close beside me tonight, and let me trust You are already writing this part of my story. Amen.

Amen.

The longing for companionship was placed in you by God Himself.
