A Prayer for a Marriage Considering Divorce
Father, the word has been spoken out loud now, and the air in our house has changed because of it. We are standing at a door neither of us imagined opening, and I am exhausted, grieving, and so uncertain of what comes next.
I confess I have hardened my heart to protect it, started rehearsing a life apart, let the bitterness make the leaving feel almost easy. But underneath the resignation there is still a flicker I am afraid to admit is there.
So I bring this fork in the road to You, the only one who sees clearly when I am too wounded to. I am not asking You to trap me in misery, but I am asking You to make sure we are not throwing away something You could still heal.
Give us both honesty without cruelty. If there is a path back, light it. If the road truly ends here, give us the grace to walk it without destroying each other or the people watching us.
Your word says You hate the breaking of covenant and the violence done to one another, and You long to guard our hearts. Guard ours now, in this fragile and weighty place.
I lay this whole heavy decision at Your feet, too big for me to carry alone. Lead us to truth, not just to relief. Whatever comes, do not let either of us lose ourselves, or You, along the way. Amen.
Amen.
Before you walk through that door, make sure He has stopped knocking.
