A Prayer for My Marriage
Father, we are in the same house tonight but somehow living in separate rooms, passing the salt without passing a word that means anything. I do not know exactly when the distance crept in, only that it is here now.
I confess I have grown lazy with this love, assuming it would tend itself while I tended everything else. I have let small resentments harden into a quiet wall, and I miss the warmth I helped let go cold.
So I bring this marriage to You, the One who joined us and has not stopped caring about the joining. Breathe on these embers. Remind me why I chose this person, and help me choose them again, today, on purpose.
Teach me to put down my phone and look up. Soften the first word out of my mouth tomorrow. Make me quicker to reach for a hand than to keep a score.
You said that love is patient, that it keeps no record of wrongs, that it bears all things and never gives up. Grow that kind of love in me where the easy kind has run dry.
I lay our marriage in Your hands, not as a problem to fix but as a covenant to keep. Make us new without making us strangers. Let us find our way back to each other, slowly, surely, and home. Amen.
Amen.
Love is a choice you get to make again every single morning.
