A Prayer for a Struggling Marriage
Father, we are tired. The same fight keeps coming back in different clothes, and we are both so worn down by it that even the silences feel like work now. I came in here just to catch my breath.
I confess I have started keeping a ledger, tallying who tried last and who hurt whom worst. That math has never once made things better, only colder. I am weary of being right and lonely at the same time.
So I turn to You, who knows every word we have said and every one we swallowed. You see the love still under the rubble. You have not written us off, even on the days we have written off each other.
Give us strength for one more honest conversation, the kind without weapons in it. Let one of us be the first to soften. Carry what neither of us can carry alone right now.
You promised that those who wait on You will find their strength renewed, that they will walk and not faint. We are fainting, Lord. Renew us.
I will not let go of this yet. I set down my ledger and pick up hope instead. Hold us together through the hard middle, and lead us to ground that is steadier than this. Amen.
Amen.
The struggling middle is not the end of the story.
