A Prayer for a Family Affected by Addiction
Father, our home has been bent out of shape by this. We tiptoe around moods, we hide our worry from each other, the children have learned to read a room before they enter it. The whole family is carrying something none of us chose.
I confess we have grown angry and weary, and sometimes we have turned that hurt on one another instead of facing the real wound. We are frayed at every edge.
So I lift up this whole household to You, each person under this roof, the one who is struggling and the ones who are struggling to love them.
Mend what addiction has torn between us. Protect the children from carrying shame that was never theirs. Give the worn out ones rest, give the resentful ones softness, and give us all a way to be honest without breaking apart. Hold our family together when it feels like it is coming undone.
You set the lonely in families and You restore the years the locusts have eaten. Restore ours. Give us back the years this has stolen.
I place every member of this family in Your hands, the strong and the weak alike. Be the foundation under our shaken house. Rebuild us into something whole. Amen.
Amen.
Addiction wounds the whole family, and the whole family can heal. None of you carries it alone.
