Sleep & Night

A Prayer for Deep and Restful Sleep

2 min readPray slowly
“It is in vain that you rise early and sit late, eating the bread of anxious toil, for he gives to his beloved sleep”Psalm 127:2

Father, my body is tired in a way that words barely reach. My shoulders are still tense, my jaw is tight, and even lying down I feel like I am holding something I cannot name.

I admit I have been running on fumes for too long, treating rest as a reward I never quite earn. I have asked my body to keep going and given it nowhere to land.

So I turn to You, the One who built the rhythm of day and night and called the resting good. I am not too much for You at this hour.

Give me sleep that actually restores me. Slow my breathing. Soften the small alarms still firing under my skin. Let me drop down past the surface into deep, healing rest, and carry me through the night unbroken.

Your word promises that You give sleep to those You love, that rest is a gift and not a thing I must seize. I receive it now with open hands.

I release this whole day to You and stop standing guard over it. Watch the house. Watch my heart. Wake me gently when it is time, lighter than I lay down. Amen.

Amen.

Rest is a gift from God, not a wage you have to earn.
