A Prayer to Surrender the Day Before Sleep

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies are new every morning; great is your faithfulness”Lamentations 3:22-23

Father, the day is finally done, and I am lying here replaying it. The thing I said wrong, the task I left unfinished, the moment I wish I could redo. My mind keeps reaching backward.

I confess I find it hard to put the day down. I act as if rehearsing every mistake might somehow correct it, but all it does is keep me awake and ashamed.

So I bring this whole day to You, the good and the failed parts alike. You were present in every hour of it, even the ones I handled poorly.

Take what I got wrong and forgive it. Take what I got right and let it stand. Take the things still undone and hold them until morning. I cannot carry today into tomorrow, and I no longer want to.

Your word says Your mercies are new every morning, that each dawn comes with fresh grace I did not exhaust. Tomorrow will have enough of it for me.

So I close the book on this day and lay it in Your hands. Whatever it held, You hold me. Let me sleep clean and start again new. Amen.

Amen.

Today does not have to follow you into tomorrow; mercy meets you at dawn.
