A Prayer When Physical Pain Keeps Me Awake

“But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”2 Corinthians 12:9

Father, the pain will not let me rest. It throbs through every position I try, and just when I drift off it pulls me back. The night feels endless when the body cannot get comfortable, and I am exhausted and aching at once.

I confess I am discouraged. I had hoped for relief by now, and instead I am counting the hours, wondering how I will function tomorrow on so little sleep, wondering how long this will go on.

So I bring this hurting body to You, the one who formed it and knows every nerve that is firing right now.

Ease this pain enough to let me rest. If healing is slow, give me patience for the waiting and grace for the long nights. Where I cannot find a comfortable position, help me find a quiet mind.

You are near to me even here, and Your grace is sufficient when I am weak, Your power made perfect in exactly this kind of weakness. Let that strength carry what my body cannot.

I cannot will the pain away, so I rest in You instead of fighting alone. Grant me whatever sleep this body can hold, and meet me in the hours it cannot. Amen.

Amen.

When the body cannot rest, God's grace carries what you cannot.
