A Prayer for Sleep Before a Stressful Day
Lord, I need to sleep, and that need has somehow made sleep impossible. Tomorrow is the big thing, the interview, the test, the appointment I have been dreading, and my body knows it. The harder I try to rest, the more awake I become.
I confess I am already living in tomorrow, rehearsing every way it could go wrong, performing the conversation before it has happened. I am exhausting myself on a day that has not arrived.
So I pull myself back to tonight and hand the morning to You. Whatever comes, You will already be there ahead of me when I walk into it.
Quiet the rehearsal. Loosen the knot in my stomach. Help me trust that I do not have to solve tomorrow tonight, that I only have to rest now and show up then.
You told me not to worry about tomorrow, that each day has enough of its own, and that worry borrowed from the future only robs the present. So I give tomorrow back to You.
Let me sleep deeply and wake clear, steady, and unhurried. Go before me into that room, that meeting, that moment. I will face it rested, with You. Amen.
Amen.
You cannot face tomorrow tonight. Rest now. God is already there.
