A Prayer for a New Job

2 min readPray slowly
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”Joshua 1:9

Father, tomorrow is my first day and I am lying awake running through it, the unfamiliar building, the faces I have not met, the worry that I oversold myself and will be found out before lunch. My stomach is a tangle of hope and dread.

I confess I want so badly to be liked, to prove I belong here, that I am already bracing to perform a version of myself instead of simply showing up as I am. The fear of not measuring up is loud.

So I give You this fresh start before it begins. Settle my nerves. Help me to listen more than I speak, to learn humbly, to ask the questions I am afraid will sound stupid.

You promised to be with me wherever I go and told me to be strong and courageous, not terrified, because You go before me into every unknown room. Go before me into this one.

Plant me among good people. Let this work become a place where I grow and contribute and find I belong. Walk me through that door tomorrow with a steady heart. Amen.

Amen.

You do not have to prove you belong. Just show up and let yourself grow.
