A Prayer for Integrity in the Workplace

Father, I am standing at a line I did not expect to face, where the easy thing and the right thing have split apart. Everyone seems to look away, the shortcut would never be traced, and the truth would cost me something real.

I confess how tempting the compromise is, how I have already half rehearsed the justification, telling myself it is small, that this is just how things are done here, that no one would even know.

So I ask You for a backbone where I feel myself bending. Make me a person who is the same when the door is closed as when it is open, who can be trusted with little and with much.

Your word says that whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out. Let me choose the secure ground even when it is the lonelier one.

Keep my hands clean and my conscience quiet, so that I can lie down tonight without a divided heart. I would rather lose the gain than lose myself. Hold me to the better way. Amen.
