A Prayer to Calm an Anxious Heart

“You will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is steadfast, because they trust in you.”Isaiah 26:3

Father, my heart is unsettled and I cannot find the bottom of it. There is a churning in my chest, a tightness that will not loosen, a sense of unease following me from room to room with no single cause I can point to. I am tired of feeling braced and restless inside my own body.

I confess I have been searching everywhere but here for peace, trying to think my way calm, scrolling, distracting, doing anything but be still.

So I stop, and I turn to You, the only true source of the stillness I am chasing. You are not frantic. You are not rushed. In Your presence there is a quiet deep enough to hold all of my unrest.

Settle me from the inside out. Slow my breathing, ease the knot in my chest, and let the noise in my mind fade to something I can rest beneath. Be the steady ground under my anxious feet.

You said You would keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is fixed on You, because they trust in You. So I fix my eyes on You now, away from the storm and onto the One who stills it.

I lay my unsettled heart in Your hands and ask You to hold it quiet. Be my calm in this restless hour, my stillness in the churn, and let me feel, even now, that I am safe. Amen.

Amen.

Peace is not the absence of noise. It is a presence that can hold you inside it.
