A Prayer for Hope When I Want to Give Up

2 min readPray slowly
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”Galatians 6:9

Father, I want to quit. I am saying it to You plainly because I cannot say it to anyone else. The effort feels pointless, the same battles keep coming back, and a tired voice in me whispers that it would be easier to just stop.

I confess I am exhausted in a way that has reached my spirit. I have started to believe my showing up does not matter, and that lie has nearly convinced me.

But I am bringing the temptation to You before I act on it, because You promised not to let me be tested beyond what I can bear, and to make a way out where I see none.

Your word says let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Hold that harvest in front of me when I cannot see past today.

I lay down the urge to walk away. I ask You to carry me through this stretch I cannot carry myself. Give me one more reason to stay.

I do not have to feel like continuing; I only have to take the next breath with You. Keep me here, Lord, and do not let me quit. Amen.

Amen.

The urge to quit is loudest right before the turn; stay one more day.
