A Prayer Before Marriage

“Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”Mark 10:9

Father, the day is almost here, and tonight my heart is somewhere between soaring and trembling. I love this person, and I am about to promise them my whole life, and the weight of that vow has finally landed on me in the quiet.

I confess my fear underneath the joy, the quiet question of whether I am enough, whether I will keep the promises I am about to make, whether love alone is sturdy enough to carry us through the years I cannot see.

So I bring this threshold to You, the author of covenant, the One who invented this kind of binding love. I do not want to enter it casually. I want to walk into it on my knees, asking You to be the third strand in our cord.

Prepare both our hearts for the daily, unglamorous work of staying. Give us a love that chooses, forgives, and grows. Let our vows be more than beautiful words, let them be a foundation we actually live on.

You said that what You have joined together, no one should separate. Join us, Lord, truly and deeply, not just in ceremony but in spirit.

I surrender our marriage to You before it even begins. Be at the center from the very first day. Bless the promise we are about to make, and help us keep it, faithfully, for all our days. Amen.

Amen.

Walk into your vows on your knees, and they will hold.
