A Prayer for My Wife

2 min readPray slowly
“Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”Proverbs 31:30

Father, she gives and gives until there is nothing left for herself, and I have watched her run on empty too many times without saying a word. I love her, and tonight I want to lift her instead of leaning on her.

I confess I have taken her steadiness for granted, assumed she would always be the strong one, let her hold us together while I forgot to ask who was holding her. Forgive me for the noticing I should have done sooner.

So I bring my wife to You, the One who sees every unseen thing she does and treasures her beyond what I have words for. Pour back into the places she has poured out. Remind her she is more than what she accomplishes.

Quiet her anxious thoughts at night. Give her rest that actually restores. Let her feel beautiful and known and chosen, not for what she manages but simply for who she is.

You said a woman who reverences You is to be praised, that her own works should bring her honor at the gates. Let me be the first to praise her, out loud, often, and mean every word.

I lay my wife before You and ask You to carry what I cannot. Fill her cup again. Help me cherish her the way You do, this gift I almost stopped seeing clearly. Amen.

Amen.

The one who holds everyone up needs holding too.
