A Prayer for Peace During Conflict

2 min readPray slowly
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”Matthew 5:9

Father, my heart is pounding and the words are already loading in my mouth. There is tension in this room I can feel in my shoulders, and part of me wants to win more than I want to be kind. I came to You before I say something I cannot take back.

I confess how quickly I rush to defend myself, how fast my voice rises, how ready I am to assume the worst. I have let being right matter more than being a peacemaker.

So I pause here in Your presence. Cool the heat in me. Guard my tongue and unclench my fists. Help me listen longer than I speak, and see a person across from me, not an enemy.

You called the peacemakers blessed and named them Your own children. Make me one of them in this moment, a person who lowers the temperature instead of raising it.

I lay down my need to have the last word. I trust You with the outcome.

Let me leave this conflict with my integrity intact and the door still open, having brought more of Your peace into the room than I found. Amen.

Amen.

Peace is not the same as winning, and the gentler answer is often the braver one.
