A Prayer for Peace Over a Restless Heart

“For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.”Psalm 107:9

Father, my heart will not settle. There is a restlessness in me that follows me into quiet rooms and lies down with me at night, an ache I can never quite name. I want something I cannot put my finger on, and it keeps me stirred.

I confess I have tried to quiet this restlessness with anything in reach, more noise, more things, more chasing, when the whole time the ache was for You. I have offered my heart a hundred lesser cures.

So I bring this restless heart back to its true home. You made it for Yourself, and nothing smaller will ever satisfy it. The longing I feel is really a longing for You.

Your Word says You satisfy the longing soul and fill the hungry heart with good things. Fill mine, the deep places nothing else has reached, with Your steadying presence.

I stop searching for peace in things that cannot hold it. I rest the search in You.

Quiet this restless heart against Your own, the way a tired child finally settles, and let it learn at last that it was always You it was looking for. Amen.

Amen.

The restless heart is only homesick for the God who made it.
