A Prayer for Protection for a Loved One Far Away

Father, someone I love is far from me tonight, beyond the reach of my arms and my watching, and the distance has a weight to it. I cannot see them, cannot check on them, cannot stand between them and whatever the day might bring.

I confess that the not-knowing eats at me. I imagine the accidents and the loneliness and the troubles they might be facing without me, and I lie here helpless, wishing I could close the miles between us.

So I do the one thing the distance cannot stop. I lift them to You, the God who is just as near to them there as You are to me here. Cover them in the places I will never see and the moments I will never know about.

Your word says that even if I rise on the wings of the dawn and settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide and hold, and the same hand is on them now.

Be with them where I cannot be. Keep them safe, keep them well, and bring us back together in time. Until then, I trust the miles to You. Amen.
