A Prayer for Protection Over My Home

Father, I am standing in the quiet of these rooms, hand on the doorframe, asking You to make this house a safe place. Outside the wind picks up and the world feels close, and I want these walls to be more than wood and locks.

I confess I have leaned on alarms and deadbolts as if they were enough, and still I lie awake at every creak and settling sound. My security has been brittle because I built it on things that can be broken.

So I dedicate this home to You, room by room. The doors we walk through, the windows we sleep behind, the table where we gather. Guard what happens inside these walls as much as what stays outside them.

You said that unless You watch over the house, the watchman stays awake in vain, so I lay down my anxious vigil and ask You to keep watch instead.

Let peace settle into the corners of this place. Make it a shelter from the storms outside and the ones we carry in, a place where Your presence is the strongest thing in the room. Amen.
