A Prayer for Provision When Out of Work

2 min readPray slowly
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”Matthew 6:33

Lord, the days have a strange shape now that I am out of work. No alarm to answer to, no place that needs me, and the empty hours press in louder than the empty paycheck.

I confess I have tied so much of who I am to what I do, and without the work I feel unmoored, useless, like I am drifting while the bills keep their steady march.

But I turn to You, the One who calls me beloved with no job title attached, who never measured my worth by my output. I am Yours, employed or not.

Provide while I am between things. Cover the gap I cannot cover. Lead me to the next door, and in the meantime keep me from despair and give my days some purpose.

Your word says to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, and all these things I need will be added to me. Let me chase You first, and trust the rest to follow.

I place this in-between season in Your hands, the lack and the waiting both. Provide for the gap and meet me in the quiet. Amen.

Amen.

You were beloved before the job and you remain beloved without it.
