A Prayer to Get Out of Debt

2 min readPray slowly
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”John 8:36

Father, the debt sits on me like a weight I carry from room to room, the balances I avoid looking at, the interest quietly working against me while I sleep, and it has stolen my peace.

I confess some of this I built with my own hands, choices I would unmake if I could, and the shame of that keeps me from even looking the numbers in the eye.

So I bring the whole tangled mess to You, the God of mercy who does not hold my past against me, who meets me right here without a lecture.

Help me dig out. Give me a clear head to make a plan, the discipline to hold to it, and provision to chip away faster than I can on my own. Free me, step by step, from this slavery.

Your word says the borrower is slave to the lender, but it also says where the Son sets free, I am free indeed. Begin that freedom in me, even as I keep making payments.

I surrender both my shame and my balances to You. Walk with me out of this, one cleared debt at a time, into open ground. Amen.

Amen.

Freedom usually comes one payment, one choice, one cleared line at a time.
