A Prayer for Burnout and Exhaustion at Work

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”Isaiah 40:29-31

Father, I am running on empty and have been for longer than I want to admit. The weekends no longer refill me, the Sunday dread arrives by Saturday afternoon, and even small tasks feel like lifting stones. Something inside me has gone quiet and dim.

I confess I built this exhaustion myself, saying yes to everything, wearing my overwork like a badge, believing rest was a luxury I had to earn and never quite earning it. I have run myself into the ground.

So I come to You hollowed out and honest, with nothing left to perform. I cannot fix this with one good night of sleep. I need You to restore something deeper than my body, down where the well has run dry.

You told me that You give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak, and that those who wait on You will renew their strength and rise on wings like eagles. I am weary. I am waiting.

Teach me to rest without guilt and to work without worshiping it. Refill what this season has drained, and lead me back toward a life I am not just surviving. Amen.

Amen.

You were never meant to run on empty. Rest is not a reward. It is a need.
