A Prayer for Peace in the Storm

2 min readPray slowly
“And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased.”Mark 4:39

Father, the storm has hit and it is loud. Everything I leaned on feels like it is being shaken at once, and the noise of it drowns out my own thoughts. My heart is racing and I do not know how much more this small boat can take.

I confess that in the wind I have wondered if You were even watching, if You had fallen asleep in the back of the boat while the waves came over the sides. Fear made me forget who was with me.

So I cry out to You the way the disciples did, frightened and honest. You are not powerless in this storm. The same voice that flung the stars can speak to these waves.

Your Word tells of how You stood and said, Peace, be still, and the wind died and the sea went flat and calm. Speak that word over my storm and over the trembling in me.

I stop trying to row my way out by sheer panic. I trust the One who commands the wind.

Even if the storm rages on, be my calm within it, until I learn that peace was never about the weather, but about who was in the boat. Amen.

Amen.

The peace Christ gives steadies the heart even before it stills the storm.
