A Prayer for Peace When Facing the Unknown

2 min readPray slowly
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”Psalm 23:4

Father, I am standing on the edge of something I cannot see clearly, and my hands are cold with it. The unknown stretches out ahead like a dark hallway, and every fear I have rushes to fill the empty space.

I confess I have let imagined disasters play on a loop, mistaking my worry for preparation. I have feared the dark ahead more than I have trusted the One who walks it with me.

So I reach for You in the dimness. You are not surprised by what is coming. You have already gone ahead, and the path that terrifies me is fully lit to Your eyes.

Your Word says even though I walk through the valley of the shadow, I will fear no evil, for You are with me. Be that nearness now, the steady presence at my side in the dark.

I let go of needing to see the whole way through. I trust the hand that holds mine.

Lead me forward one step at a time, until the unknown becomes the place where I learned, again, that You never leave. Amen.

Amen.

The unknown is only dark to us, never to the One leading the way.
